The Wanganui men and women's hockey teams had vastly different outcomes to their respective Manawatu league divisional matches on Saturday.
Both the men's TCOB side Wanganui women played visiting Marist teams on home turf at Gonville Domain in games that marked the beginning of the season.
The men lost 5-nilto Marist in the Manawatu division one clash, while the women demolished Marist B 14-nil in the Manawatu women's division two match-up.
The Wanganui women moved down to division two this season after finding it tough fielding full teams week in, week out.
The men were without some key players and this season a jointly coached by several of the senior players.
Meanwhile, women's coach Colleen Baylis said the 14-nil margin was unexpected, although a win was.
"We thought we would win and not because we have moved into division two. We really did expect the Marist girls to put up more of a fight, although they have a relatively young, inexperienced side compared to ours. We are expected it to be much tougher next week when we play College in Palmerston North," Baylis said.
Scorers for Wanganui were Sophie Redmayne (4), Kate Tylee (3), Melissa Goss and Nicky Skedgwell two apiece and Carlotte Baker, Lucky Wilbur and Kirsty Carson one each.
