Dog owners in court
Three dog owners will appear in Whanganui District Court on Thursday, May 17, after their dogs attacked people or other animals late last year. The owners are being prosecuted by Whanganui District Council under the Dog Control Act 1996.
Duck shooters' firearms seized
Firearms licence holderswill be assessed for their suitability to hold a licence after nine weapons were seized by Marton police on Saturday. The firearms were found unsecured in a hotel carpark while their owners were in the bar on the first day of duck shooting season. A spokeswoman said police will speak with the licence-holders, which may result in a warning or having their licences revoked.
New state-of-the-art toilets at Ōhakune Carrot Adventure Park will be ready for use at 9am on Saturday morning, Ōhakune Growers' Association spokeswoman Peggy Frew says. The park has playground and gym equipment, a petanque court, a walk by the river and 4000 native plants. It's on the site of the former Rochfort Railway Station.
Woman remanded on drug charges
A woman facing three charges, two of them drug-related, was remanded in custody at Whanganui District Court on Tuesday and will appear again on Tuesday, May 15, for a bail hearing. She has name suppression and is charged with possession for the supply of methamphetamine, possession/use of utensils for methamphetamine and unlawfully carrying or possessing a firearm.
