Brian Tamaki rides a huge Harley Davidson motorbike of enormous horsepower. Jesus of Nazareth rode a humble little donkey. It seems that "Bishop" Tamaki misses the point of Jesus' life and teachings.

Thanks Leigh-Marama

Re: Leigh-Marama McLachlan. I think you have made the right decision for yourself and your family at this time (Opinion, October 16).

Thank you for your work until now. Leave the shouty and sensation-seeking people to themselves.

Maybe when they're shouting only at each other, they'll get bored with it. Sensible people have better ways to live their lives.

Very best wishes for your future.

Locking up seldom provides answers

My letter to the Whanganui Chronicle concerns the recent passing of Stewart Murray Wilson.

On my return to Ahuriri, Napier, from Oslo University, I had learnt from the Norwegian experience, following a violent offence, the question was often asked "How did he or she fall through the cracks?"

From my 30-odd years as a community Justice of the Peace at the Napier Court, the phrase "lock the buggers up and throw away the key" was commonplace and built into our mindset towards our massive rate of incarceration.

I had never met a "human beast". Your former mayor Michael Laws' [words about] The Beast of Blenheim prompted my curiosity to often visit Stewart Murray Wilson at his cottage on Whanganui Prison Grounds.

... While "we keep locking the bastards up", we seldom find answers or cures.

Under adverse conditions, a few volunteers with PARS and Corrections gave of their best to SMW, after 25 years inside.

Level 2 service

I suppose that most people as they pass the threescore and 10 landmark have the unfortunate habit of perusing the death notices in the Chronicle to see who has gone ahead of us.

In that same area (normally) is the section devoted to Adult Entertainment and one cannot help glancing at it as one briefly scans the page. I must point out that this is strictly out of curiosity, not necessity, as at my age it would be a total waste of money!

[One ad] offers the usual claims as to performance and that she is level 2 compliant. I assume that refers to Covid-19, not some industry aptitude qualification. On that basis, I must ask whether that means service with a mask on ...

Just a thought, but it also raises the question of entitlement to government financial assistance when business is slow.
