This year's IPCC report on the current science on climate change warranted more coverage, writes one reader. Photo / NZME

This year's IPCC report on the current science on climate change is the most direct that they have written.

No beating about the bush - the last few months of floods, high temperatures and particularly the fires in the Northern Hemisphere - they were adamant that these disasters are undeniably down to global warming.

This IPCC report is extremely worrying and very important as it is an urgent call for governments and all of us to take action as the frightening results of 30 years of inaction are staring us in the face.

With such an important report about the dire consequences of continuing to twiddle our thumbs one might have thought even the Chronicle would have done their bit to stimulate awareness and action, but what did we get?

Tuesday, the day after the report? Nothing, perhaps too late for Tuesday. Wednesday, barely 5cm in the side column, pg 6, titled "Get serious now!".

Thursday, nothing.

Oh well, let's get on with business, if we ignore climate change it will just go away.

Speaking of business, it relies on the environment to continue and if the environment suffers through neglect, businesses certainly won't thrive.

It is time that newspapers, radio and TV changed the importance, and space, given to business and give that space to environment and climate issues.

That will show that we value the environment and its real importance

Castlecliff planting success

I want to thank everyone for being with us, Castlecliff Coastcare, on our last planting mahi on Sunday. Kia ora!

It was fantastic, lots of people, lots of laughter, lots of korero, lots of mahi, lots of kai afterwards.

And a big thanks to Castlecliff Four Square's Vivek and Indira, for their generous donations of food.

As we were going home along Seafront Rd, we witnessed some interesting things.

Firstly, we saw an unhelmeted, unlicensed trail bike rider on the road.

Next minute opposite on the Reserve (where there are WDC bylaws that say no trailbikes etc), there was a kid riding a trailbike, also of course not registered.

But the kid was wearing a helmet.

Next minute a police car comes round the corner and we thought, perfect timing.

But no, the police just drove on by oblivious.

What should we make of that?
