The future of Wanganui squash is in good hands after the #NuiJuniors medalled at the Central Junior Tournament in Hawera at the weekend.

They went for experience and returned with medals.

Sponsored by Harvey Round Motors a team of nine Whanganui Squash Club #NuiJuniors certainly made their presence felt at the Central Junior tournament in Hawera last weekend focusing on age group titles up for grabs.

Aria Bannister continued her successful season winning the U11 girls title and Lana O'Connor and Zoe Rapson earned second and third place respectively in the U13 girls division.

The U11 boys division was tightly-contested with a countback needed to determine the winner.

With Thor Darlington second seed and Max Matthews third, Matthews emerged the eventual winner after a three-way tie.

Matthews upset Darlington 3/2 before Darlington beat the top seed Brodie Bennett 3/0. Matthews then took Bennett to five sets, but just lost narrowly. On countback Bennett was out of it, leaving the tie to be decided between Matthews and Darlington who had won 5 sets each.

Because Matthews had beaten Darlington earlier he claimed the U11 boys title for 2018.
Blake Hoskin placed third in the U15 boys.

Others in the Wanganui junior set-up to make the trip and enjoy the experience of facing players in their age group were Mac O'Connor (U11), Logan Symes (U13), Samsom Power (U15).
