Whanganui cyclists on litter-picking crusade for Bike Wise Month

Cyclists see things others don't and Rod Trott sees litter.

So the Whanganui cyclist decided to organise a clean-up ride as part of Bike Wise Month.

"We're generally looking down so we see the litter, particularly on certain rides.

"To be fair I've just got some visitors here from the UK and they say how clean it is. We can always do better though."

Mr Trott's clean-up ride was held on Sunday with riders meeting at the i-Site before heading out on rubbish collecting missions.

One group headed out to Airport Rd, "the gateway to Whanganui", collecting rubbish along the way while others cleaned up along the river between town at the rail bridge.

"It's not a difficult thing to do and it's good anger management for us. Instead of getting angry we do something about it," Mr Trott said.

"I'm looking for someone to come up with a way we can do it without having to get off the bike."

Mr Trott said the group managed to fill about 40 plastic bags with rubbish.
