Sweet treats are on the menu to help raise money to protect abused, neglected, injured and abandoned animals.
The SPCA's Cupcake Day is on Monday, August 6, with this year the 10th anniversary of the annual fundraiser.
People can register online and host a party, organise a bake sale or encourage their workplace to make cupcakes to raise money to help vulnerable animals.
"Without the help of the public we wouldn't be able to provide shelter, care and vet treatment for the 45,000 animals that come through our doors each year," SPCA chief executive Andrea Midgen said.
"To everyone who will bake or buy cupcakes in the next two weeks, we want to say thank you. As well as saving lives, your donations will be used to care for the animals in our shelters as they wait to find their forever home."
Since 2009 Cupcake Day has raised more than $2.3 million and the aim is to raise $320,000 through Cupcake Day sales this year. All funds donated will be used to help rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals. Whanganui is one of 42 SPCA centres around New Zealand.
People can register to bake and sell as an individual, team or school at www.spcacupcakeday.co.nz and will receive ideas and recipes for their fundraising event. The SPCA encourages Cupcake Day participants to use SPCA Blue Tick approved eggs in their baking.
