Dave Schofield, from Masterton, and Phillip De Silva and Tommy Hodgetts from Feilding waiting to have a crack at shorthead.

The Ruahine Collie Club held its dog trials at the weekend, with secretary Donna Smailes very pleased with the entries and reporting a successful event.

Wanganui Centre president Paul Evans and his dog Bryte were no April fools, back in the winners' circle when taking out the shorthead after a sojourn to attend a string of trials in the South Island and coming home with 25 points.

The pair also won the aggregate on both heads.

The elder gentleman of dog trials in the Wanganui centre is Peter Green and he would be pretty delighted about his win in the straight hunt with huntaway Brew.

Graham Wellington, from the Farmlands Parapara/Makirikiri club, had another stunning weekend, winning the longhead with Murphy and placing with Rachel and Seamus.
To add to the haul, Murphy was also fourth in the shorthead.

Rachel now has an unbeatable lead in the top dog competition with 35 points, while Steff Tweed and Grit lead the huntaways.

There is a busy week ahead with trials in and outside the centre. Ohingaiti begins on Friday afternoon - heading dogs only - with the Macintosh Shearing Young Guns finals on Saturday, and Sunday wrapping up the event.

Huntaway finalists in the Young Guns are Jamie Shrubsall and Stag; Jaron Bertie and Maude; Phoebe Smailes and Sage; Martin Henderson and Pipa; and Simon Ward and Ruby.
The four heading finalists are Simon Ward and Kate; Jaron Bertie and Pip; Martin Henderson and Ann; and Scott McNeil and Flyn.

With a total prize pool of $5000, the competition will be fierce.
