Circus comes to town

Weber Bros have a whole new twist on circus amusement - with no animals but humans in day-glo colour performing death-defying stunts.

The circus was packed for its first night at the Whanganui racecourse on June 20. It stays in town until July 1, with evening performances most days and day performances at weekends.

The new show is called Adrenaline. It had children in the audience open mouthed and wide eyed, an attendee said.

A man is shot from a cannon, into an inflatable safety pad. Four people ride motorcycles inside a globe only 4m in diameter. A strong man climbs up a pole. He stands on it horizontally, and then a woman stands on his chest.

Between acts two engaging clowns entertain the audience with jokes, and one plays the saxophone.

The slick and tight show takes two hours, with a break in the middle. It's all inside a huge and colourful tent, warmed by heaters and set to lively Latin-themed music.
