Six months ago, this was a deserted section. Now a community bike park is underway in Whanganui, with the first stage open for the kids.
"The project started with the community, and the kids wanting somewhere to ride. We then approached the council, who donated this bit of land forus and we decided to build a pump track," says Doug Rennie, the projects organiser.
Local businesses have also donated time money and resources, to get the project up and running.
Eight-year-old Harry Jurgens, thinks it's fantastic, "My favourite thing is probably the little jumps, so we can do little stunts."
Zoe Bullock, who's also eight, is another fan, "I really like doing jumps and I just find biking really fun so it's really cool to go on a track, on a biking track."
Volunteers also donated over 100 hours to put the track together and along with Bike Shed, have plans to expand the track.
"The next stage that we are building is the large pump track behind us, which is five times the size of the kids one. There is going to be a learn to ride area for these little kids, which is traffic lights, and railway crossings and curbing channels," says Glen Bullock, a project organiser.
For the next stage, 1500 cubic meters of dirt needs to be truck in. It is due to be completed by the end of summer.
