Wanganui Vintage Car Club captain Jim O'Neill was having a well-deserved rest the day after "a very big day" for the club's annual rally.
The one-day rallyon Sundayattracted 60 entries from around the central North Island, Wellington, Taranaki, Hawke's Bay and two from Warkworth, north of Auckland.
"The one that didn't finish had carburettor trouble but he managed to get going again and drive back to Taihape where he was from."
The annual Queen's Birthday weekend rally started at the Cornmarket Reserve near the Dublin St Bridge where the public had the opportunity to view the cars before they set out. The rally travelled to Kai Iwi and Maxwell then to Ngutuwera, inland from Waitotara. After a stop in Waverley for lunch, the rally returned to Whanganui via Brunswick.
Locals turned out to have a look at the cars before they set off from Cornmarket Reserve.
"The weather was overcast which was a shame because the views up towards Ngutuwera are absolutely outstanding," O'Neill said.
"A few people got lost because they didn't read the instructions properly and found their way back. That's normal - it always happens. It was a fantastic day. People were happy."
