Wanganui Collegiate School came out on top of the mixed code inter-school sporting tournament with Wairarapa boys' and girls' trinity colleges Rathkeale and St Matthew's on Tuesday.
WCC hosted to the two colleges with the boys competing against Rathkeale in rugby, football and hockey, while the girls faced off against St Matthew's in netball, hockey and football.
A total of 10 games were played over the various age groups with WCC boasting wins in six, including all three rugby clashes, and a draw in the girls' 1st X1 hockey.
Wins by the WCC 1st XV (10-3) and 2nd XV (50-7) pushed both sides into the top echelon of the Central North Island Secondary Schools rugby competition that Rathkeale also competes in.
The WCC 1st XV has now won three CNI matches, drwan one and lost one, while victory by the 2nd XV places it in the top three of their CNI grade.
WCC director of sport Barry Touzel said it was difficult to definitively say where each team was on the leaderboard with many teams in the competition having games to play in hand.
The 2-all draw in the WCC girls' 1st X1 hockey clash was especially pleasing given St Matthew's strength in the code.
WCC travel to Lindisfarne College in Hawkes Bay next Tuesday for an inter-school mixed sporting code tournament.
