The bookings for Auckland's national finals were decided in the final round of the Inter-Provincial trials at the Wanganui Bridge Club on Sunday afternoon.
Sixty-eight enthusiastic bridge players filled the Wanganui Bridge Club headquarters on Parsons St over the weekend, hoping to take the contract that would get them to Auckland in November.
Whanganui was hosting the Inter-Provincial trials, with 17 teams of four players from Taranaki, Palmerston North, Hawkes Bay and the Wanganuiclub trying to qualify for the national provincial finals on November 24-25.
Play started at 11am on Saturday and concluded after 2pm yesterday, after which the scores were all tallied to find the winners.
Amongst the four sections, Whanganui's Robyn and Don Nightingale won the Senior competition, having been in a team with Noel Woodhall (Havelock North) and Ken Bateman (Palmerston North).
Joining them in Auckland as the Open section winners will be New Plymouth's Colin Carryer and Sandra Calvert, who teamed with Napier's Mairi and Matthew Bristow.
The Women's section was won by Havelock North's Cecile Gyde and Lyne Feather, who teamed with Napier's Glenys Dean and Napier's Gwen Cowie.
The one team Intermediate section was won by Feilding's Barbara Robinson and Paul Orsborn, who teamed with Palmerston North's Laura Griffin and Tony Clear.
