Labour MPs Trevor Mallard and Annette King took a visit to Whanganui's mental health in-patient unit, Te Awhina, last week.
There, mental health and addiction services nurse manager Katheryn Butters discussed the district health board's development of the unit.
Mrs King - Labour's deputy leader and health spokesperson - and
Mr Mallard met staff and service users, while Mrs Butters explained Te Awhina's 2012 refurbishment and quality improvements.
"They asked a number of questions about Te Awhina's 'mother and baby' facility, and they were very interested in the topic of drug use and the effects this has on people's mental health and wellbeing," Mrs Butters said.
She is pictured right showing Mr Mallard and Mrs King posters setting out the Te Awhina refurbishment project and the facility's Releasing Time to Care plan.
