Bad weather didn't deter animal lovers from helping Vets On Carlton celebrate their fifth birthday.

The celebrations were held on Saturday, and included a petting zoo with goats and sheep, and an SPCA fundraising sausage sizzle.

Head nurse Melissa Waldegrave said the clinic was also offering lots of specials on the products it sells.

"One of the specials we offered was that people could have their animal micro-chipped and listed on the New Zealand animal companion register. This normally costs $70 for both, but we did it for $30 on the day," Ms Waldegrave said.

She said she was initially concerned that Saturday's heavy rain would deter visitors - they had to cancel the planned bouncy castle because of the weather - but that didn't happen.

"It went really well, and we had an awesome turnout."

Vets On Carlton was formerly located at Heads Rd and was known as Heads Road Vet Clinic.

Ms Waldegrave said the move to Carlton Ave had proven to be beneficial for the clinic.

"Our clientele has grown, and we've had to take on more staff. It's been great," she said.
