Vehicle causes superficial damage to Williams Domain in Whanganui East

A vehicle has damaged the surface at Williams Domain in Whanganui East.

Hooning at Williams Domain in Whanganui East has caused largely superficial damage to the park.

Williams Domain is opposite Whanganui East School and is bordered by Tinirau, Patapu, Maketu and Hakeke streets.

A Whanganui District Council spokesperson said the incident, which is believed to have happened over the weekend, was not reported to the council and they had no information about the people or vehicle involved.

"Fortunately this time the damage is largely superficial and we believe it will rectify itself once the mower has been over it.

"It would have been worse if the ground was soft.

"This type of vandalism is not particularly common – it happens perhaps a couple of times a year. We're not aware of it being a major issue here or in our other parks at the moment, although it tends to run in cycles.

"If people do see this happening, we ask that they report it to the police immediately."

Whanganui Police were also unaware of the incident.

Whanganui District Council says the damage is superficial.
