State Highway 3 at the Marangai Rd intersection just south of Whanganui remains down to one lane as work continues to remove a crashed truck blocking the road.

The truck, which was carrying palm kernel, and a car collided just before 7.30am on Friday.

A police spokesperson said the driver of the car was taken to Whanganui Hospital but the truck driver was not seriously injured.

Meanwhile, Whanganui Fire station officer Charlie Bilby said it may be a while until the truck is cleared as it will have to unloaded and the truck righted.

After 1pm NZ Transport Agency advised there was still stop/go traffic control in place for State Highway 3 and for drivers to watch their speed through the area.
