Two people have been seriously injured in a crash on State Highway 1 at Bulls.

A St John spokeswoman said two ambulances attended the crash on the Rangitikei River bridge about 3pm today.

Two people, both in a serious condition, were taken to Palmerston North Hospital.

The highway was closed for a time and traffic was diverted along Wilson Road but traffic was flowing again by around 4:15pm.
