Two people have been transported to Whanganui Hospital after a two-vehicle collision near Ohakune.

Emergency services were alerted just before 7am of the crash on the intersection of State Highway 49 and Mangateitei Rd.

Both patients were transferred to Whanganui Hospital in a serious condition, one by helicopter and one by ambulance.

The man who was transferred by helicopter is in a serious but stable condition and has gone to theatre.

The woman who was transferred by ambulance is in a stable condition and being reviewed by ED for potential admission, a DHB spokeswoman said.

There was another crash just outside of Marton around 6.20am. A truck had rolled over, temporarily blocking parts of the road.

No one was reported injured and the road was cleared by 7am according to the Police Media Team.
