Two fatal crashes during weekend.

There were two fatal crashes in the Whanganui region during the weekend.

A man has died following a crash on Ketemarae Road in Hawera when his car collided with a power pole at approximately 4:15pm on Saturday afternoon.

He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and police said he had been identified but they had not contacted his next of kin yesterday.

One person died after a crash south of Waiouru on SH1 just before 5.45am yesterday.
The crash occured about half a kilometre south of Springs Hill.

Police say that speed may have been a factor and the driver and one passenger received minor injuries.

Both accidents are being investigated by the Serious Crash Unit.
