The Whanganui River's paddlesteamer the PS Waimarie begins a new venture every Sunday from January 20 until Easter 2013, providing two return sailings to the popular township of Upokongaro.
There is the opportunity for cyclists, walkers and even canoeists to sail to Upokongaro, have lunch then run, walk or paddlethe 12km back into Wanganui or stay and explore and relax until the final return sailing.
Another option could be to do it in reverse and run or walk to the Upokongaro pier and take one of the two return sailings.
Group discounts and family (two adults and three children) prices are available for all sailings.
The trips will run from January 20 until Easter, 2013.
The trips are described as "a unique experience for walkers, canoeists and cyclists and day trippers on the Whanganui River", director of the Whanganui Riverboat Centre and Waimarie Paddle Steamer Grant Collie said.
He said that, as the season proceeded, other river operators would be offering services further up the Whanganui River from Upokongaro - visit www.riverboats.co.nz for details.
The first boat leaves the Whanganui Riverboat Centre at 11am and the second at 4pm. It takes an hour to get to the Upokongaro Pier. Return journeys are 1pm and 5.15pm.
