Ten teams from the Hurricanes' region will srummage for top honours in the HYRC U16 Tournament at Collegiate School early next month.

The best of the best under-16 rugby teams from throughout the Hurricanes' region will do battle in Whanganui during the first week of October.

Wanganui Rugby Union development officer Justin Lock said 10 teams from Poverty Bay, Hawkes Bay, East Coast, Wairarapa, Horowhenua/Kapiti, Wellington, Manawatu and Whanganui will contest the Hurricanes' Youth Rugby Council (HYRC) U16 Tournament between October 2 and 5.

"These are the best of the best under-16 teams in the Hurricanes' region and all games will be played at Wanganui Collegiate School. All the visiting players will also be sleeping and eating at Collegiate," Lock said.

"It will be a tough competition. Games start on Monday, October 2 and continue Tuesday and Thursday - Wednesday has been set aside as a rest day."

Top seeds (in order) Wellington, Manawatu, Hawke's Bay and Poverty Bay will form Pool A, while Wanganui and the remaining sides, including the Wellington and Hawkes Bay Development teams make up Pool B.
