Wanganui Ballet and Dance Academy is putting on a show that is fun for all the family this weekend.

Peter Pan & Friends is playing today and tomorrow at the Prince Edward Auditorium, Wanganui Collegiate School.

Academy director Anna Chandulal said the show would consist of the famous story of Peter Pan in the first half - choreographed by Ms Chandulal - with the second half devoted to a selection of modern and classical dances.

About 100 dancers will take part in the production, all of them students from the academy.

Ms Chandulal said the students had been rehearsing the show for most of the last term.

She said a feature of the show would be the big wooden ship on stage and the costumes designed by former Royal New Zealand Ballet seamstress Alice Patton.

"It's a great show for kids. It's very visual and it has the familiar story that kids love," Ms Chandulal said.

Peter Pan & Friends will play at the Prince Edward Auditorium, Wanganui Collegiate School, at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets available at the door - adults $15, children under 16 $8, seniors $10, and a family of two adults and two children $40.
