People looking to have a break can enjoy a scenic chairlift ride at Whakapapa, a short walk in the National Park, a round of mini-golf, or a coffee and something to eat at one of the many great cafés or restaurants along the way.
This includes cafés boasting breathtaking views of Mt Ngauruhoe and Tongariro National Park, a high tea at the Chateau, or drop by one of the numerous cafés and restaurants in National Park Village or Ohakune.
Mayor Cameron added that people travelling to Auckland could also consider travelling on SH4 through Taumarunui.
"This would allow them to experience Forgotten World Adventures rail cart journey on the old Ohura to Stratford railway line, take an exciting jet boat ride on the Whanganui River or if they have a bit more time some golf at the renowned Tarrangower Golf Course," he said.
Come and stretch your legs in Our Greater Outdoors."
