Thinking on your feet at Toastmasters
Whanganui Toastmasters had success at the recent area speech contests. David Rei Miller, who won club contests for Table Topics and Humorous Speech, won the area contest for Table Topics and placed third in Humorous Speech.
The area includes three clubs in Palmerston Northand one in Feilding as well as the Whanganui club. David will go on to represent the club in Table Topics at division contests, competing against others from Levin, Napier, Palmerston North and everywhere in between. Table Topics are one- to two-minute impromptu speeches. Speakers are given a topic and have to talk about it with only a few seconds to gather their thoughts. The topic could be pretty much anything. David says Table Topics teach us to be nimble and think on our feet. Tony Sisson of the Whanganui club says life is a series of Table Topics.
Whanganui Toastmasters meets on the first, third and fifth Wednesday of every month at the Salvation Army Worship and Community Centre, 4 Indus St. Guests are always welcome, as are new members. For more information search for Whanganui Toastmasters on the net or call Tony on 027 247 0147.
