STOKED TO GET IT IN THE BOAT: Patea dairy farmer Scott Newland holds his 33kg king fish, which he caught off the coast "somewhere north of Wanganui, but I'm not telling you the exact co-ordinates", in yesterday's 19th annual Wanganui-Manawatu Sea Fishing tournament. Mr Newland won a $800 fishing rod forhis king hit, which cleaned up the competition. Fishing finally got under way yesterday in perfect conditions after it was postponed at the weekend due to choppy seas. The conditions were not favourable for the boats that ranged in size from 13 feet to 35-40 feet. Prize giving took place at the Wharf St Club site, with chief organiser Terry Liggett saying how rapt they were with the attendance given the fishermen only got in half-a-day's fishing. The main draw was sponsored by Marine Services of Rapanui Rd. "We're grateful to our sponsors because without them the competition would not be what it's become." PHOTO: TRACEY GRANT210108WCTGFISHING4
