Every Monday, the Chronicle fires some questions at a local. This week Liz Wylie talks to Whanganui Community Living Trust's new manager Tyron (Tie) Scown. Tie took some time out from a busy week stepping
into the shoes of long-serving manager Mike Ward, who retired last week, to answer some questions.
How long have you been working for Whanganui Community Living Trust?
Three weeks.
How did you first become involved in community mental health?
I have worked within the health sector for the past 15 years. For the past seven years, I have worked in the mental health and disability sector both in New Zealand and in Perth, Western Australia.
After living in a big, bustling city, is there anything you miss that you'd like to see in Whanganui?
Late-night shopping on Thursdays.
What are you enjoying most about living in Whanganui?
The friendly people and River Traders Market.
What is your favourite way to blow off stress?
Watch a good documentary.
Where did you grow up?
South Taranaki.
What are you reading right now?
Impossible: My Story, by Stan Walker.
Which real or imaginary person would you like to invite home for dinner and what would you like to ask them?
Stan Walker. I would ask him what is it like for him to live in Whanganui, compared to Australia. I would like to ask him what he misses and what he would like to see in Whanganui.
