Police respond to calls to the Vinegar Hill campground near Hunterville on December 19.

Police respond to calls to the Vinegar Hill campground near Hunterville on December 19.

A Taihape man charged after an alleged assault at a popular Rangitikei River camping site has been further remanded in custody, with his lawyer complaining about delays.

Dick Kakahu Keefe-Wilson, 23, appeared before Judge Large in the Palmerston North District Court last week and was remanded in custody for a May 30 callover.

It was reported Keefe-Wilson was shot in the arm by police who responded to an incident at the Vinegar Hill campground on December 19.

On Wednesday, assigned lawyer Jacinda Younger appeared for Keefe-Wilson.

A pre-bail approval was adjourned at Keefe-Wilson's last appearance, and again adjourned on Wednesday.

Younger raised concerns with Judge Large over the time being taken to prepare documents for the court.

Judge Large advised her to keep requesting action, and if it didn't happen, to lay a complaint.
