Whanganui will be home to a group of young Tahitian athletes for a few days this month while they compete in the David Jones Suzuki NZ Schools Triathlon Championships.
The Tahiti Triathlon Federation will be bringing seven secondary school-aged children to compete in the Triathlon to gain international racing experience. This
will also be a fantastic opportunity for New Zealand athletes to race against international athletes.
"We will arrive in New Zealand on 23rd March where we will spend five days in Taupo for a final training camp before heading to Whanganui. The team has been training hard and are very excited to race at the event. This is the first time our athletes will compete in a Triathlon event outside of our island," says Bernard Costa, Tahiti Triathlon Federation Vice President.
The national event will be held on March 30 and 31 and will bring hundreds of athletes along with their families and supporters. This will be a great opportunity to showcase Whanganui on the national and international stage, Sport Whanganui says.
"We are excited by the fact Whanganui is hosting such a major event and it's fantastic to see the community collaborating to make it all happen," Sport Whanganui's General Manager Adam Gosney says.
Event organisers Sport Whanganui is grateful to those who have so far volunteered for the event and would welcome anyone else interested in volunteering.
