The Suburbs team with its base of Whanganui players claimed the first medal for the home town contingent at the 2018 New Zealand Masters Games in Dunedin at the weekend.
Suburbs, which consisted of eight Whanganui players and a handful of guests to round out the squad, finished with thesilver medal for Over 50's in the Touch Rugby module.
Matches were held at the Kaikorai Rugby Football Club in Bishopscourt, which was also once the home club of Steelform Whanganui representative Craig Clare.
NZME broadcaster Rowena Duncum said the squad really enjoyed the southern hospitality.
As well as the Whanganui players, they were joined by players from Waikato, Auckland, Christchurch and even Tasmania.
There are around 20 Whanganui people competing at this year's Masters Games, including Mike Cronin and Kerry McGuinness (football), Mike Gilbertson and Colin Matthews (Moto-X) and Jeff Phillips.
