Students from three schools yesterday discovered the benefits of taking up a trade and earning while they learn.
Wanganui Collegiate, Wharekura o Tupoho and Kokohuia Year 10 and 11 students took part in an interactive presentation with students who are themselves learning at Training for You in the City College hall.
Richard
Cooke, Laura Terry Pene, Alesha Prujean and Lee Bush kept the action moving as they tested the students' knowledge on what is a trade.
The students sat on bean bags in mixed school groups and were given little rewards for their answers.
Wanganui Chamber of Commerce trades facilitator Susan Crawshaw said she was part of a group formed in June comprising schools, training providers, industry training organisations, and Work and Income which has been working on the In Schools Trade Promotion.
The presentation was the beginning of a series of events, with an Industry Day planned to give students the opportunity to visit Wanganui businesses. The trades group will be at Cullinane College today, Wanganui Girls' College tomorrow, and a special presentation open to the public tomorrow night in the City College hall at 7.30pm.
