Stolen car used in ram raid

Hawera police are investigating an apparent ram raid that took place in the South Taranaki town at 3.30am on Wednesday.
Sergeant Alan Liddington said a 1972 metallic green and black Holden Kingswood was unlawfully taken from a Vogel St address around 3am. Twenty minutes later it was driven into the glass door of the Shell petrol station in Disraeli St.
The door smashed and security cameras filmed two or possibly three men attempting to jemmy open a cigarette dispensing machine. The service station's alarm then sounded. The men left in the vehicle, which Mr Liddington said had not been located. They failed to take any cigarettes. Security camera footage was still being analysed yesterday.
