State Highway 1 was closed in both directions south of Waiouru this afternoon as a result of a vehicle fire, police said.
Police received reports of a vehicle on fire at about 4pm, at the junction of Deacons Rd and State Highway 1.
NZTA tweeted the road was closed "dueto a bus fire" between Taihape and Waiouru, near the Deacons Rd intersection. The lane has since opened, NZTA tweeted.
