A police pursuit of a stolen ute ended with spikes being laid across a central city road and three arrests yesterday.

Two males and a female are in custody after the brief chase that followed the theft of the utility vehicle from the Allied Concrete depot in Liffiton St. Teatime traffic suffered minimal disruption as police cars trapped the ute near the City Bridge.

Officers kept homeward-bound workers moving while they arrested two men and a woman and secured the vehicle to be towed and returned to the depot.

Whanganui Police Sergeant Lance Kennedy said the trio were seen stealing the utility and then spotted by police as they headed toward Fordell.

The utility then turned around and headed back to Wanganui where police spiked it along the top of Durie Hill. The driver continued slowly down Portal St and was stopped by police on the Anzac Parade/Portal St intersection.
