Hello and welcome to my brand new Talking Hair column. I have been playing with this idea for a few years and the opportunity has now come to give it a go. I hope you will enjoy reading it every month, and that it will prove to be useful to you.
I intend to touch on different aspects of hairdressing from a client's perspective, so that it can be very simple and easy for the readers to understand. No hairdressing jargon that only hairdressers understand! I have answered lots of questions from my clients over many years (I still do) and it amazes me how a simple answer can go a long way and help solve problems they've had for so long.
We all take for granted that everyone knows all about the most seemingly insignificant topics like choosing a shampoo and conditioner, as well as how to apply it in an efficient and economical way. Not so. Even hairdressers are surprised at the amount of basic knowledge there is to learn at hairdressing school when they first learn the trade, often simple, but not passed on to the clients. My goal is to do just that. I really hope you will find it interesting and learn a few tricks of the trade. Of course, you need to bear in mind that 'what hairdressers do, only hairdressers can do', but with a few tips here and there, it may make your task so much easier.
I will only write on one topic at a time to elaborate a little. Also I would like to give you the opportunity to write in if you have any questions on that specific monthly subject. Should I get a good response to it, I could occasionally write a Q & A column, once I gather enough questions. I will not go into complicated technical information because first, I'm not a hairdressing technician, and second, it's not my cup of tea. I like simplicity.
Here is an example: How to choose and use products, some advice on colours and perm, how to choose a hairstyle that will suit, and be easy to keep and maintain, ideas on how to find a new hairdresser when moving to a new city, or when you have lost your hairdresser for different reasons ... and more.
I am looking forward to this little adventure with writing. It may prove to be a little more challenging than I think, as English is a second language for me. But thanks to auto correct on my computer and good editors helping me, it should be easier.
Happy reading and au revoir.
