Serious motorcycle crash closes State Highway 3 near Rātana

A motorcyclist has been critically injured after a crash on State Highway 3 near Rātana this afternoon.

Police were alerted to the crash between Whangaehu Village Rd and Rātana Rd, involving a motorcycle, at 4.20pm, a police spokesperson said.

The motorcyclist is being treated for critical injuries.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said two ambulances, a critical care paramedic, an operations manager and a helicopter responded at 4.17pm.

One patient was transported to Whanganui Hospital in critical condition, they said.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager said they responded to the single vehicle crash at 4.20pm and are currently assisting police and ambulance on scene.

Police advised motorists can expect delays.

“No detours are available, and motorists should expect delays while the scene is cleared,” the police spokesperson said.
