Whanganui Police are looking for a burglar who is bypassing the more commonly stolen items in favour of those of a more personal nature.
Whanganui Police Senior Sergeant Lance Kennedy said there had been two burglaries reported recently where women's personal items, including battery-operated sex toys, were stolen but laptops and
televisions left behind.
The burglaries had happened at unusual times of the day and evening in the area surrounding Laird Park.
A dark-skinned man of solid build with short black hair and facial hair was disturbed and chased in a third attempted burglary at a Dublin St address, near Niblett and Keith St, about 2:40pm on Tuesday.
He was described as wearing a brown T-shirt, black pants and carrying a black backpack.
The man ran from the scene and could not be found.
Mr Kennedy said burglaries of this nature were a concern because these types of offenders were a risk for further sexual offences.
It was possible that he had committed more burglaries that had not been reported because of the nature of the stolen items, but if there were other people who had noticed personal items missing, they should report it to the police.
Anyone with information on the suspect, or who had unreported burglaries of this nature are asked to call Whanganui Police on 349 0600.
