Pity the postie on the Springvale run!

The mail box at Mark Christensen's Heritage Food Crops Research Trust has been overflowing with requests for free tomato seeds after several stories were recently published online and in local Wellington newspapers about the Trust's high-health golden-orange tomatoes.

Mark and Trust volunteers Shirley Rudge and Barbara Letica spent the weekend bagging up tomato seeds and filling the self-addressed envelopes that have poured in from home gardeners around the country — 540 so far, with more expected.

With typical generosity, Mark is giving away five different varieties of heritage tomato seed, including cherries, a dwarf and a very promising variety from Siberia with the unlikely name of Olga's Round Golden Chicken Egg.
