Searches lead to drug charges

Four people were arrested and charged with drug offences following search warrants this week.

Police carried out six searches in Whanganui on Wednesday and laid a range of charges, including drug-related ones.

Five people were also taken into custody in relation to outstanding arrest warrants.

The searches came as part of a Central Police District coordinated effort from Levin to New Plymouth to prevent home burglaries.

"A substantial amount of property has been recovered, including furniture and household electronics, which will be identified and returned to their rightful owners," a police spokesman said.

"Dwelling burglaries have a harmful impact on communities. They're invasive and can make people feel vulnerable."

Police in the Central District will continue to focus on preventing home burglaries, providing the best support for victims, and holding offenders to account.

"Officers would like to thank local communities for providing vital information which helped lead to the searches.

"Police remind people to secure their properties and report any suspicious behaviour to police at the time."

People can record the serial numbers of their valuables on the SNAP website to give them a better chance of recovering their goods if stolen.

The police operation also saw two search warrants executed in Hawera.
