The Term 1 school holidays are here with plenty of events to keep children and parents busy.

Here’s a look at some activities in Whanganui and nearby areas.

April 3 - Good Friday

Block 49 Night Markets

The new weekly Whanganui night market kicked off last Friday, bringing local vendors and creatives together from 4-8pm.

Families are invited to head to 49 Guyton St for yummy street food and good vibes.

April 4 - Easter Saturday

Whanganui River Markets

The weekly Whanganui River Markets offer fresh local treats, crafts, retro stalls, plants and more on the waterfront from 8.30am to 1pm every Saturday during the school holidays.

April 5 - Easter Sunday

Gonville Community Market

Those wanting an Easter egg scavenger hunt can head to Gonville Community Market for an Easter-themed day at 13 Swiss Ave.

Buy some food, pet some kittens and explore unique stalls from 9am-2pm.

April 6 - Easter Monday

Little Nui Easter egg hunt (ages 4-8)

Looking for an Easter egg hunt for the tamariki in Whanganui town centre? Little Nui is hosting one at its indoor playground in Ingestre St.

Entry is $12 per child with all profits donated to Whanganui Toy Library.

Whanganui Athletic football holiday programme

Join club football director Aaron Folan for a combination of football skills, training and other activities from 9am-3pm.

Football Fun: ages 5-11 (April 6-10). Train like a Pro: ages 12+ (April 13-17).

$50 per day or $150 for five days.

April 7 - Tuesday

Tiny Hands Paper Weaving sessions

Whanganui Regional Museum invites primary-aged tamariki and their caregivers to a series of fun, hands-on school holiday workshops encouraging creativity and confidence, led by local artist Purewa Hodge.

On Tuesdays, attendees will create vibrant woven designs. On Thursdays, participants will work with harakeke (flax) to weave a woven star, in preparation for mid-year Matariki celebrations.

Spaces are limited and koha bookings are open now.

Te Matapihi Bulls Community Centre Activities

There are plenty of activities happening at Te Matapihi for the April school holidays.

A children’s movie will screen at 1-4pm on April 7 and April 11. Crafting, sewing and mending workshops run at 10am to 4pm from April 8-10. Virtual reality workshops will take place on April 14-16 at 10.30am to noon.

Sustainable Whanganui workshops (ages 5-12, adult supervision required)

Sustainable Whanganui has a free garden craft workshop – seed saving and sowing on April 7 from 10am to noon, and April 9 from noon to 2pm.

April 8 - Wednesday

Ohakune Library craft programme (ages 6-12)

Tamariki are invited to Ohakune Library from 2-3pm for “pot painting magic”.

Spaces are limited. Attendees are encouraged to come early and wear painting clothes.

April 11 - Saturday

Brickanui

Brickanui will draw Lego lovers from across the region to the Whanganui War Memorial Centre on April 11 (9.30am to 5pm) and April 12 (9.30am to 4pm).

More than 100 exhibitors will contribute to the biggest show yet, with plenty of clever builds and hands-on activities for the kids.

Entry $5 or $18 family pass (two adults and two children), raising funds for Whanganui Surf Life Saving.

Feijoabulous Festival

For faithful fans, the annual Feijoabulous festival is back for a family afternoon celebrating feijoas.

Bring a feijoa dish for afternoon tea and enjoy a day of games, singing and dancing at Harrison Street Community Church from 2-4pm.

Prizes for the biggest, smallest and ugliest feijoa.

Taihape Gumboot Day 2026

The gumboot throwing capital of the world will host classic family games, such as egg and spoon races, gumboot throwing, bouncy castles and scavenger hunts.

Everyone is invited to Outback Rd in Taihape from 9.30am to 3pm to join the fun.

April 12 - Sunday

Marton Harvest Festival

Marton Harvest Festival will host 150 unique stalls at Sir James Wilson Park.

From 10am to 3pm, people can expect to find everything from cheeses, olive oils, gins and wines to pickles, jams, jewellery and plants from local growers and makers.

There will be home brew, pumpkin pie and the largest pumpkin competitions, with prizes up for grabs.

April 13 - Monday

Sustainable Whanganui workshops (ages 5-12, adult supervision required)

There are free Create a Picture Board Workshops from 10am to noon and noon to 2pm at Envirohub, 23 Drews Ave.

April 18 - Saturday

Manawatū Cultural Festival in Feilding

Join an afternoon filled with vibrant performances, fashion, delicious food and rich cultural experiences.

Everyone is welcome at the free event from noon to 3pm in Feilding Square.

April 19 - Sunday

Whanganui Road Rodders Rivercity Park Up

Whanganui Road Rodders Park Up will attract car lovers and whānau for a flash end to the holiday break.

The annual charity car show is at Whanganui City College from 10am to 2pm, with gold coin entry going to the Cancer Society NZ.
