"This is a business which is embodying hard work and guts as a start up in a challenging environment." - Russell Bell

So, 2021 is now well under way and in keeping with the theme of last year, I am going to start with featuring a growing local business.

If you would like me to feature your business or a project that you are involved with, please send me a text to the number listed below.

Readers may recall that, in the preamble to announcing the wonderful High Kut restaurant as 2020 Business Zen Business of the Year, I wrote a short piece on the Whanganui Memory Clinic which I would like to expand on today.

Because this is a business which is embodying hard work and guts as a start-up in a challenging environment.

I read an interesting article while on holiday where an overseas business owner described the feeling of having Covid-19 and the impact of lockdown on his business as being "hit by a car". Well, Bobbie Bryce, like the majority of New Zealanders, has not had Covid-19 but last year she actually was hit by a car while trying to cross Victoria Ave.

From there, after a long recovery punctuated by a number of other setbacks, I received an email from her in late 2020 noting that she wanted to "get moving" again (after even being unable to do that just from a getting from A to B perspective).

Bobbie's determination is really inspiring and, although at times I have found that my advice support has been more review rather than active input, I am really enjoying working with her and seeing her business grow from the beginnings of a concept back in lockdown #1 (may there be no more).

As I write this, Bobbie is attached to the Memory Foundation & Brainfit World and you can find Bobbie as part of the team on https://www.brainfit.world/team/ .

As an accredited Brainfit coach Bobbie has the backing of internationally recognised leaders in the memory field and through this connection the Whanganui Memory Clinic also has access to world class materials and tools which can help with cognitive performance.

And I am really happy to learn that Bobbie will be giving seminars around the region and will be running her first set of Brainfit classes from February 23 at Cooks Gardens.

Now, like a number of maladies, memory loss may not necessarily be something that you would tell your friends or even loved ones about. However, once you pass 50, you can notice a drop off in cognitive performance.

The tools and techniques that can be learned in the Brainfit classes can really positively enhance what is a crucial skill that we all take for granted, but all people (including business people) rely upon.

And at $197 (GST incl) per person the price, for what may even be a clear way for you to improve your own performance in your business, it is an absolute bargain.

For me I would see this as a way to make my memory and service to clients even better. And there are only 10 places and if it weren't for an out-of-town commitment I would be telling you there are only nine!

Bobbie will be presenting the classes to Palmerston North business owners too, as part of a marketing plan that we have developed, but she will remain based here – another part of our vibrant business community.

•Zenith Solutions is a Whanganui business consulting practice, if you want to make plans for 2021 give Russell a call on 021 244 2421. If you are interested in the Brainfit classes, give Bobbie a call on (06) 348 9414.
