Police would like to speak with Mitchell Cole in relation to a double homicide in Ruatiti.

Police have released a photo of a man linked to a double homicide at a rural Ruapehu property as they seek help from the public in locating him.

Releasing new information this morning, Central District Commander Superintendent Dion Bennett said police were wishing to speak to Mitchell Cole, who has been identified as a person of interest.

“It is believed that the 29-year-old is in the Ruatiti area. He should not be approached, but if you see him please call 111 immediately,” Bennett said.

“I know this event will be concerning for many in our community.

“Police will be carrying out reassurance patrols as we work as quickly as possible to locate those involved.”

A homicide investigation was launched by police yesterday after two people were found dead by officers at a Ruatiti address near Whanganui National Park.

Additional police had been deployed to the Ruatiti area to aid the investigation.

Members of the public with information are advised to contact police by calling 105 or visiting 105.police.govt.nz using the reference number P064773873.

Earlier, Bennett said the victims were located by police at a rural property on Saturday afternoon.

A scene examination has continued into the new week as officers canvas the large and isolated property, with the Eagle helicopter called in to assist staff.

Bennett said a post-mortem and formal identification procedures will be carried out in the coming days.

He said there will be a heightened police presence in the area as the investigation progresses.

Police said they would like to hear from anyone in the Ruatiti area who has information about the incident.
