Rowing: Aramoho Whanganui crews take minor placings in Tonks Boat Race

Luke Watts and Jonty Thomson finished second in the Tonks Small Boat Race on Sunday.

Aramoho Whanganui Rowing Club members took out the minor placings in the 2018 Tonks Small Boat Race on the Whanganui River on Sunday.

As previously reported, Union Boat Club's Philippa Baker-Hogan was the winner in the multi-craft event, which saw 24 entries.

In a change from the previous format used for the Winter Series, the fastest boats started first with the slowest boats going last.

The overall placings are decided on prognostic time – having the highest percentage of the world record time for each specific boat and crew numbers.

Baker-Hogan's time was 96.86 per cent prognostic, meaning she barely held off AWRC's senior double team of Luke Watts and Jonty Thomson, who finished in 20m 0.8s for a 96.36 per cent prognostic.

Third on the podium were AWRC's Girls Under 17-18 quad scull of Zeah Brewer, Niamh Monk, Jaimee Bridger, Ella Dudley, who with a 21m 29s time had a 95.19 per cent prognostic.
