Topp Twins Jools (left) and Lynda Topp

Topp Twins Jools (left) and Lynda Topp

IT WAS a relief to find a Topp Twins tele show rerun on Maori Television this week.

To chortle all over again at longtime Kiwi comedians like the Topps, Billy T James and Fred Dagg (John Clarke) is a treat and a grand reminder of how funny we are.

You never tire of treats like Aunt Dot's date scones, Aunty Maurine's roast dinners and our old comics who take the michael at all aspects of New Zealand life.

In Don't adjust your Twinset these two former farm girls the Topps ensure their irreverence and scathing asides slice through various social strata of New Zealand.

From the well-to do gals to the basic Kiwi farm chaps and matronly well upholstered mates attired in towelling frocks and an atrocious onsie, the Topps have it -well -topped.

This week's twinset show featured their comedic alter egos taking the Hawke's Bay to task, well the Hawke's Bay Wine festival that is.

So we had the Ken sheep farmer and Ken the failed TV sportscaster, Camp Mother and Camp Leader, the matronly duo and posh socialite sisters, Prue and Dilly who breed King Charles Spaniels and know all the right people.

Central to action was the wine festival tour bus which dropped off our various wonderful pairs launching into straight into each idiosyncratic character.

The spoofed a marvellous dinner sequence with sheep farmer Ken extolling the marvels of a plate of fat pork sausages oozing with gravy, lots of mashed potatoes and boiled cabbage.

Outside, the Camp leader and Camp mother were fussing with their home made wine for the festival competition.

They pressured fair goers who were trying to relax, to taste their glorious Happy Valley brew ...these were real people at the fair.

They tried to play the game but it wasn't easy for them to keep straight faces after swallowing.

When the bus launched into view again down the steps rushed Prue and Dilly in their fab floaty frocks and race-day hats.

Sadly Dilly was more than a bit silly from her endless tastings and fell splattered in a posh heap on the grass with Prue hysterically demanding she get on her feet.

Gorgeous Hawke's Bay fun completed with much yodelling and singing as two imported rock chicks on stage in tiny skirts...these twins simply don't the legs or booty for this look which made it even funnier. Great laugh replay. Thanks Maori Tele.
