A family reunion to be held in Whanganui next month will include descendants of the creators of two significant local landmarks.
Expatriate Kiwi Jon Davison, now living in the south of France, is the great-grandson of Ward Observatory founder Joseph Ward and the grandson of engineer Harry Kensington believed tohave helped construct the Bridge to Nowhere.
"I left New Zealand in 1973 and have been a photographer all my life," said Mr Davison. After spending 25 years in Australia and 17 years in Oxford, England, Mr Davison and his Kiwi wife moved to the south of France "on a whim".
"I specialise in aviation/defence image making, hold a defence security level of secret, and have flown in hundreds of classic, military aircraft.
"I spent 20 years with Lonely Planet, Berlitz, Insight Guides and many more. "I travelled the world for them many times."
A published author of books, on submarines, aviation and photography guides, Mr Davison said he was looking forward to meeting up with family in Whanganui.
"My wife's daughter and her husband recently moved to Whanganui to live so my wife and I will be coming to visit them and it is a chance to have a reunion with my family." Mr Davison said he planned to spend a week in Whanganui and visit the places and people that were part of his family history.
