The verdict has been delivered by the people: Henry the rooster should stay.
Wanganui people have voted overwhelmingly for Henry the rooster to stay in his idyllic garden on Durie Hill, and Henry's owner Nola Morahan said she stands by her Barna Velda rooster, and is keeping him.
In response to the
Chronicle's story yesterday, the phone rang hot with Wanganui people in support, and the few against Henry's back-dated eviction notice, which arrived in the post on Monday from the Wanganui District Council regulatory services department. Mrs Morahan has been given permission to keep Henry in the neighbouring rural gully that backs on to her property, as long as it does not breach the council bylaw.
The Morahan family have lived in Plunket St for 45 years and always kept hens.
The complainant cannot be named by the council and a request under the official information Act (OIA) would not identify the person.
