Two former tournament runners-up finally got their hands on the big pot during the 4 Kings Poker Club's third annual Wanganui Open Championship and Omaha Classic at the weekend.
There were 88 entries for Saturday's Open, slightly down on last year's 100 sellout, but club spokesman John Turnbull said thetournament was closely contested, with the players well catered for with the food and drink at Stella Restaurant & Bar. Stratford's Phillip Hopkins was the winner, after coming second in 2013. He was followed by Ben Maats and Andy Slater, with 4 Kings member Anton Edwards finishing fourth.
On Sunday, 40 players backed up for the Pot Limit Omaha Classic, with all top five finishers coming from the 4 Kings club.
Bruce Wilson was the winner, having also been the previous runner-up, followed by Shaughan Tizard, Ian Chamberlain, Neil Kirkwood and Jodi Broughton.
In total, almost $10,000 was paid out in prize money over the two tournaments.
