South Taranaki mayor Ross Dunlop has joined with the mayors of New Plymouth and Stratford and the Taranaki Regional Council to request more financial help from central government in the wake of the June floods.

They have written to Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy requesting assistance for cases of extreme hardship arising from the storm.

Relief packages worth more than $1 million have been distributed to farmers in the region, but the June event was severe and caused millions of dollars worth of damage.

Regional council chairman David MacLeod said the latest $416,000 in central government relief funding for Taranaki had been allocated in December, but they had applications for infrastructure repairs worth $6 million.
