The City of Wanganui Highland Pipe Band invites all Whanganui pipers to join together at the Lion monument on the steps of the War Memorial Centre forecourt at 6am on November 11, to be part of a global piping event to mark the centenary of the end of World War I.
This event pays tribute to the millions killed or wounded in battle, and those on the home front who struggled amidst pain and loss to help ensure freedom survived. At 6am pipers in New Zealand and countries around the world will commence the day's commemorations with the traditional Scottish lament played at the end of battle — Battle's O'er.
The City of Wanganui Highland Pipe Band celebrated its centenary in September, and its first known parade was on Armistice Day, 1918.
Band President Robert Allen advises this is not just a City of Wanganui Highland Pipe Band event, and would welcome all pipers and the public in Whanganui and districts to be part of this historic event.
All pipers participating will receive a Certificate of Grateful Recognition, issued by Bruno Peek LVO OBE OPR, originator and Pageant Master of the global event.
