Whanganui's club rugby season belatedly got under way on Saturday. Defending premier grade champions Byford's Readimix Taihape beat Wanganui Car Centre Kaierau 6-5 at Kaierau Country Club. In the Grand Hotel Challenge Shield match at Waverley's Dallison Park, Waverley Harvesting Border thumped McCarthy Transport Ruapehu 58-13, while playing on their home ground Settlers Honey Ngamatapouri defeated Dave Hoskin Carriers Marist 21-16.
